Dakoda Armstrong Battles New Race Track for 17th Place Finish in Texas

FORT WORTH, TEXAS (April 9, 2017) - After a much-needed week off, Dakoda Armstrong and his JGL Racing team headed off to the unknown of a newly repaved and reconfigured track at Texas Motor Speedway.  While it took a little while to get a hold of it, Armstrong would battle the new racing surface and steer his No. 28 WinField United Toyota to a 17th place finish in the running of the My Bariatric Solutions 300 at the Fort Worth, Texas track.

"The new surface here at Texas was a challenge and as always a new racing surface only provides one good racing groove," said Armstrong.  "This JGL Racing team worked hard during our practices on Friday and I worked on figuring out the fastest way around the new track.  Our No. 28 WinField United Toyota was pretty decent in qualifying and really should have had a better starting spot.  We fought being a little tight for most of the race but in all we had a pretty good car today and were able to fight our way to a decent finish."

Armstrong would start the 300-mile event from the 23rd position as a result of his qualifying earlier in the day.  As the green flag flew on the first race of the newly paved track, would quickly charge forward and into the 17th position by the first caution on lap 11.  While reporting that his No. 28 WinField United Toyota was a little tight and needed to rotate better, Dakoda would slide back a little bit and finish the first 45-lap segment just outside the top 20.

With some key adjustments, Armstrong would maintain his track position in the second segment as he also continued to learn the new racing surface.  The second half of the race would be caution free with some varying race strategies.  Dakoda would steer his No. 28 WinField United Toyota up inside the top-10 before sliding back a few positions.  While conserving fuel in the closing laps, Armstrong would take the checkered flag for his fifth top-20 finish of the 2017 season.

"This was a really interesting and challenging weekend with the new racing surface here at Texas," added Dakoda.  "The guys on this JGL Racing team gave me a solid No. 28 WinField United Toyota and in the end we were able to secure a decent finish.  I look forward to coming back to Texas in the fall and utilizing what we learned here and improving on this finish."

The 17th-place finish kept Armstrong sitting 11th in the NASCAR XFINITY Series overall driver standings - just nine points behind 10th place.

Armstrong and his JGL Racing team will enjoy another week off before heading to Bristol Motor Speedway for the running of the Fitzgerald Glider Kits 300.  The seventh race of the NASCAR XFINITY Series season will be Saturday April 22nd and can be seen LIVE on Fox Sports 1 at 1:00 pm ET. It can also be heard on Performance Racing Network (PRN) and SiriusXM Channel 90.
