BRISTOL, TN (August 20, 2016) - With a big change of pace after two consecutive road course events, Dakoda Armstrong and his JGL Racing team turned their attention to battling "The World Fastest Half-Mile". Armstrong would battle the iconic track and the handling of his No. 28 Winfield on his way to an 18th place finish in the running of the Food City 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
"For some reason Bristol has always been a tough track for me and tonight wasn't any different," said Armstrong. "Our No. 28 Winfield Toyota was just a little too tight for me and I didn't feel that I could hustle the car around this track like you need to. Everyone on this team gave a tremendous effort and we took a number of swings at it with adjustments. In the end I just couldn't get comfortable with our handling so we hung on and got the best finish we could."
Dakoda would qualify in the 29th position for the scheduled 300-lap event. When the green flag flew, Armstrong would slowly work his way through the field before the first caution flew on lap 75. Reporting that his No. 28 Winfield Toyota was just too tight in the center of the corner, Dakoda would come down pit road for some adjustments. As the second caution flew at the halfway mark of the race, the handling seemed to not change much so the JGL Racing team came down pit road for further work on their machine.
The second half of the race would be much of the same for Armstrong and he would battle for valuable positions on the track while also keeping his No. 28 Winfield Toyota clear of any on track incidents. With some late fireworks and overtime racing, Dakoda would safely come home with his 12th top-20 finish of the season.
"That obviously wasn't one of our best races of the year but no one on this JGL team gave up and we were able to come home with a safe finish," added Dakoda. "We are in the middle of this race to The Chase and hopefully we have this bad race behind us and can string together some solid finishes moving forth. I know the guys on this team continue to work hard and I look forward to going to Road America next week and getting back with some positive momentum."
The 18th-place finish would keep Armstrong in the 14th position in the overall NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers' standings - only 16 points of the top-12.
The NASCAR XFINITY Series will next head to Road America for the running of the Road America 180. The 23rd race of the NASCAR XFINITY Series season will be Saturday August 27th and can be seen LIVE on NBC Sports Network at 3:00 pm ET.
